Whimsical Wednesdays At LIAF

Executive Director Tori Cohen and Community Outreach & Events Coordinator Christine Fex introduce Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation’s (LIAF) new Whimsical Wednesdays

Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation (LIAF) recently announced a new free program for those living with the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease or related forms of dementia (whether a diagnosis has been made or not) and their spouse, caregiver, family member or friend.

They are invited to attend one or more of four sessions, known as Whimsical Wednesdays, for a free afternoon including a light lunch, friendly conversation, pleasant music and dancing—if so inclined.

“This idea was created in the hopes of eliciting memories of times gone by. We understand that when living with someone who has memory issues, the outlets for social life are often very limited,” said LIAF Executive Director Tori Cohen. “This will be a way for them to reconnect with their family member or friend, and enjoy the company of others experiencing the same situation.”

Whimsical Wednesdays will take place on Sept. 16 and 30, as well as Oct. 14 and 28. The program runs from 12 to 2 p.m. and is held at The City Cellar Restaurant, 1080 Corporate Dr., Westbury.

Attendance is free, but spots are limited and reservations must be made by Sept. 9, by calling Christine Fex at 516-767-6856, ext. 19, or by emailing cfex@afaliaf.org.

Founded in Port Washington in 1988, LIAF provides resources, programs and support from prediagnosis through end-of-life for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their families throughout Long Island and Queens.
