Be The Best Sport, a local 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that offers adaptive sports programs for children with special needs, will begin its spring session this month. Athletes with special needs, ages 3 to 20, are offered the opportunity to participate in an array of sports-enrichment programs catered to their individual needs. Sports include adaptive karate, basketball, fitness, multi-sport, soccer, tennis, track and field, and others.
Multiple locations are available through Port Washington, Plainview and Garden City. Support from Tokey Hill of Port Washington, The Port Washington Tennis Academy and the Lutheran Church allow these programs to be offered at their locations at reduced rental rates. Support from the North Shore Autism Circle enables Be The Best Sport to offer reduced program fees for participants.
Trained coaches and volunteers work with the athletes to provide individualized attention and help the athletes build their self-esteem, confidence and fine motor skills in a fun-filled and low-pressure environment.
