SchreiberCiting statistics, student and parent reviews and expert insights, Niche.com has ranked Paul D. Schreiber High School number 16 among New York State’s best schools.

Schreiber received the third-highest ranking among the 29 Long Island school districts that made the site’s list of the Top 100 schools in the state. The state rank is part of the service’s research to determine the “Best Public High Schools in America,” for which Schreiber ranks number 69 among approximately 24,000 public high schools studied throughout the country.

“It’s nice that the Schreiber staff, faculty and students are being recognized for their hard work by an independent outside source,” said Port Washington Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Mooney. “Moreover, the fact that student outcomes are weighed alongside testimonial from students actually attending the school, as well as their parents, makes it even more meaningful.”

Mooney added, “I congratulate and thank Principal Ira Pernick and the high school community for once again putting Schreiber on the map in a positive light.”

Niche.com provides information on K-12 schools, colleges and neighborhoods to help families and residents looking to relocate. The Niche study factored in strength of academics, quality of teachers, school resources and the quality of student life, including close to 150 student and parent reviews, in an attempt to measure the overall excellence of the school. State math and reading proficiency scores, college readiness indexes, graduation rates and SAT/ACT scores also weighed in to the ranking.

We believe that the quality of a school or district should be measured, at least in part, by the parents and students who actually go there, according to the Niche.com website. They should also be measured by hard data and across a number of key factors so that no one factor dominates a ranking. Most importantly, they should be measured by their results…each ranking represents a composite score of several different survey questions pertaining to that topic.

Schreiber High School has been recognized in recent Washington Post, U.S. News & World Report rankings of top high schools in the country. Earlier this year, the online service Finder.com recognized Schreiber as a top U.S. school as well.
