HarborFest ended after about two hours due to drenching downpours that started around 11:30 a.m. after a damp and drizzly morning. Many people came out to HarborFest in the morning, despite the dreary weather. Some of the performers were able to perform on the stage before the weather took a turn for the worse.
“In 26 years of HarborFest, we have had many more years of good weather than bad,” said Port Washington Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bobbie Polay. “The HarborFest Committee members, dedicated volunteers and about 200 vendors and participants all put so much effort into the event and we are very disappointed that we had to close before lunchtime. The downpours that started at 11:30 a.m., combined with the forecast for severe weather at 1 p.m., left us no choice. The safety of everyone is the number-one priority. We are looking forward to the next HarborFest, which will be June 4, 2017.”
Luckily, the Model Boat Regatta on Baxter Pond was held early before the rain.
Soundwaters was able to sail on Saturday night but not on Sunday due to the weather.
