The Mertz Community Resource Committee, a grant fund of the Community Chest of Port Washington, awarded a $10,000 grant to the Port Washington Parent Resource Center (PRC) to fund the renovation of their floors this summer.
Earlier this year, as the PRC celebrated its 35th anniversary, its board of directors recognized the need to renovate and update several areas of the facility and went to the Community Chest for help. “We are grateful to the Mertz Community Resource Fund for this generous grant award, which allowed us to renovate our floors,” said Leila Noor, PRC director of development.
She added, “The Community Chest of Port Washington has generously supported the PRC’s Outreach Program for more than 20 years, and now the Mertz Community Resource Fund is also helping the PRC with its renovations.”
In addition to the new floors, the renovation plans include the creation of modern and stimulating classrooms, a drop-in indoor playscape, a parent lounge with coffee and free Wi-Fi and renovations to the bathrooms. The approximately 600 people who use the PRC facilities each year will benefit from these renovations. The PRC is having a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 9:30 a.m., to celebrate the completion of the first two stages of the renovations.
The PRC is a nonprofit parent cooperative that provides affordable quality educational and social opportunities to Port Washington families. The PRC offers a myriad of parent and child enrichment classes, parenting programs, family support groups, mommy and me classes, a parent university series, family concerts, vacation workshops, field trips, camp and many other activities. The PRC also offers financial support to low-income families through its Outreach program, so that all families regardless of income can become members and participate in programs and classes.
