Tina Lee of Sands Point was named a member of the Board of Trustees of Buckley Country Day School, whose students include many Port Washington residents.
Lee and her husband Richard Chang have a daughter, Isabelle, who is in fourth grade at Buckley.
The school also announced Eric Deutsch of Flower Hill has retired from the Board of Trustees.
“We are delighted to welcome Tina to Buckley’s Board of Trustees at a time when her expertise will help the school with the execution of an ambitious long-term plan for its future,” said Dr. Jean-Marc Juhel, Buckley’s headmaster.
Lee—a graduate of NYU-Stern and Stanford Law—has, for the past nine years, been a board member of Scholarships America, where she became passionate about education. She said she is greatly looking forward to bringing that zest, along with her experience from the business world, to Buckley. schoolweb
“This is a very exciting time to be joining Buckley’s board, as there are a lot of strategic decisions to be made,” said Lee, who is the managing director of the World Journal, a Chinese media company. “I look forward to participating in the future development of Buckley and to continue the tradition of community, as well as the academic, emotional and social growth of our children.”
Lee feels that her experience with Scholarships America, and as the founder and president of the Greater New York Chinese Community Dollars for Scholars, will translate well to the Buckley Board of Trustees—specifically when it comes to strategic and business planning.
“We have so many talented, hard working students at Buckley and we want to make sure they reach their full potential and develop their specific skills, whatever they may be,” said Lee.
Deutsch, who served on the board from 2006-2014, and his wife Stephanie have two children who graduated from Buckley—Jack (2012) and Emma (2014)—both of whom are attending high school at Friends Academy.
The generosity that Mr. and Mrs. Deutsch have shown to Buckley over the years cannot be overstated, a Buckley spokesperson said.
During his time on the Buckley board, Deutsch, whose expertise in real estate has proven invaluable to the school, served on five committees, the spokeswoman said. Those included: building and grounds, land subcommittee, finance, risk assessment, and technology.
Two of the many highlights of Deutsch’s tenure on the board had to do with selling and acquiring properties. Several years ago, when Buckley was given land in New Jersey, Deutsch, was instrumental in finding a buyer for the property.
Closer to home, Deutsch played an integral role in the acquisition of the 2.75-acre property adjacent to the Buckley campus. The closing on the land deal has created a strategic opportunity for Buckley’s future
