“Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz: Looking Back…Moving Forward” will be held Saturday, March 22, at 5 p.m. to celebrate what would have been Marian McPartland’s 96th birthday.
The Port Washington Public Library, Landmark on Main Street, NPR, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and Marian McPartland’s family will come together to mark this occasion and celebrate her life. The event will be held at the Port Washington Library. Admission is free.
Jon Weber, pianist and new host of NPR’s Piano Jazz, will perform and discuss Marian’s style and her support for young talent. Clips from In Good Time, a film about Marian McPartland’s life, will be shown by filmmaker Huey Coleman. Young jazz performers will honor Marian through performance.
And young performer will receive a scholarship stipend from the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
