Port Kids Show Off Art Skills

About 100 Port children and tweens put on rubber gloves and picked up paint rollers on Saturday, Aug. 18, at The Art Guild of Port Washington during the nonprofit organization’s fourth annual event CreArtive, to show off their art skills and learn techniques from local volunteers.

The free event offered projects for kids ages 5 through 12.

Kids enjoyed various types of art including origami taught by a local student and mixed media with the creation of collages using pieces from maps to sparkles. Locals also tried their hand at painting trees assisted by local artists, clay creations, print making by carving out their names or a picture and then rolling paint over it on paper, button making, drawing and sketching and everyone’s favorite—tie dying supplied white T-shirts.

“This was our biggest turnout yet,” said executive director Lisa Grossman. “We are thrilled to provide this free event where so many children could explore and expand their creativity.”

The Art Guild of Port Washington located at 200 Port Washington Blvd., Manhasset in Elderfields Preserve, offers a local art gallery, visiting artist workshops, demonstrations and lectures, children and adult art classes and community events.
